When we talk about responsibility, we often think “things to do”.
However if you look at it in the context of your perception of life, you’ll realise that you do choose your reaction to every situation. This is how you create your own reality. And that’s where true responsibility lives.
No matter what happens, you ALWAYS have a choice and are always responsible for your behaviour. And the more your practice being aware of these moment by moment decisions, the better your reality…
Yesterday, I’d worked all day on my website, preparing for the launch coming up in a few days only now.
Around 9:30pm it looked like it got hacked and that my entire day’s work was quite likely lost.
My husband Nick came to tell me that this is what had happened and that he’d try to fix it assuming he’d need to reset the site to how it was 24h ago.
A full day’s work… GONE! ?
A few years ago, I would have felt immediately angry, and would have worried a lot until I knew what was going on. I might have snapped at Nick or even worse my kids, felt a ball in my stomach for hours and struggled to sleep at night.
A few months ago, I would have been upset for 10 minutes but would have let it go after that. I still would have had that feeling of decent size loss lingering until I’d re-written what I was working on.
Last night, I wasn’t upset by it. I told Nick: “Well, that sucks, but there’s nothing I can do about it right now, so I’ll just wait and see. I don’t need to worry about it.” Emotionally, there was no bad feeling inside. I felt peaceful and trusting that things would work out the way they were meant to.
So I went to make myself a cup of tea and started watching an episode of a TV show I like because I was feeling tired from jet lag. I had a great night!
An hour or so later, he told me that he had contacted our tech support team and that everything was restored. I got lucky and nothing was lost. But it could have. And if it did, I would have still remained happy and peaceful, that was my conscious choice in that moment and it felt good.
Yes you need to choose your reactions to every situation, but the real results happen when you make a conscious effort to practice it over and over and over again.

Let yourself be where you need to be at every moment. And keep practicing your self-awareness while being fully responsible for your own life. The results will continue to show up in your life unavoidably.
